本日気温が26度を超え、北海道北部にも暑い夏が来た。
Today the temperature has exceeded 26 degrees Celsius, and a hot summer has come to northern Hokkaido.

気温が暑くなると虫の活動が活発になる。
When the temperature gets hot, the activity of insects becomes active.

北海道の蚊はしぶとい、悠々と筆者の周りを飛んで隙あらば噛みつきにくる。
The mosquitoes in Hokkaido are reluctant to fly around the author.
If there is a chance, it will come to bite.

オオワシ_Steller’s sea eagle

その悠々と飛ぶ蚊の姿を見て、なにゆえかオオワシを思い出した。
Seeing the mosquitoes flying slowly, I remembered Steller’s sea eagle for some reason.

北海道にはシベリア大陸からオオワシが秋に飛来して春先にシベリア大陸へ帰っていく。
Steller’s sea eagle flies to Hokkaido from the Siberian continent in autumn
I will return to Siberia in early spring.

筆者は本州育ちであり、本物のオオワシをあまり見ることなく来たが、本物のオオワシを見るため3月に北海道羅臼町へ向かった。
I grew up in Honshu, and I don’t have many real Steller’s sea eagle.
I came without seeing it, but to see a real Steller’s sea eagle
In March he headed to Rausu, Hokkaido.

初めて見る本物のオオワシは大きく、美しかった・・

雄大な姿で飛び、筆者の心を文字通りワシ掴みにした。

あまりにもオオワシに惹かれ、筆者は1泊し翌日朝4時に起床してオオワシを観察しに向かった。
I was so attracted to Steller’s sea eagle that I stayed overnight and got up at 4 am the next day.
I headed to the observation of the Steller’s sea eagle.

朝4時の羅臼は、外気温マイナス20度で、空気も凍り付きあらゆる音が遅れて聞こえてくる場所だった。
Rausu at 4 am has an outside temperature of -20 degrees Celsius and the air freezes.
It was a place where all the sounds were heard late.

同行する家人が早速朝日に照らされるオオワシを見つけ「木の上にいるよ！」と教えてくれた。
The accompanying family member immediately found a Steller’s sea eagle illuminated by the rising sun and said, “I’m on a tree!”
Told me.

筆者も木の上にいるオオワシを追って極寒の羅臼町を徘徊した。
The author also wandered around the frigid Rausu town, chasing the Steller’s sea eagle on the tree.

オオワシは、野生動物であり非常に憶病で、人とある程度の距離間を保たないと、すぐに飛び去って行く・・・
Steller’s sea eagle is a wild animal, very cowardly, with humans to some extent
If you don’t keep the distance, you will fly away immediately …

逆に2ｍを超える怪鳥が、自分へ向かって来てもかなり怖いのだが、自然とオオワシに怖さを感じなかった。
On the contrary, even if a monster bird over 2m comes toward me, it’s pretty scary.
However, I didn’t feel scared of Steller’s sea eagle naturally.

仲が良いのかオジロワシとオオワシが良く一緒にいる姿を見た。
I saw a white-tailed eagle and a Steller’s sea eagle together.

オジロワシは精悍な風貌で、とぼけた顔のオオワシとは不釣り合いに見えた。
The white-tailed eagle has a fearless appearance and is unfishing with the eagle with a blurred face.
It looked like a match.

羅臼港にて現地ガイドの説明を聞いた際に、「オオワシはとぼけた顔をしているだけあり、たまに海に墜落するんです」と説明を受けた。

I just have a face, and sometimes I crash into the sea. “

とぼけた顔で海の上を悠々と飛来するオオワシは、美しく格好良かった。
The Steller’s sea eagle, which flew over the sea with a blurry face, was beautiful and cool.

気温が上昇し、少し暑さでぼんやりした頭で、春先にみたオオワシを思い出しているといつの間にか腕を蚊に喰われていた。
